Multiple 3D printers producing parts at Cosmic 3D

Start with the job the part must do

A custom 3D printing request can begin with an STL, a sketch, measurements, a broken sample or simply a problem that needs a physical solution. The first question is not which printer to use. It is what the finished part must accomplish and which dimensions or surfaces are critical.

Tell us where the part will be used, how it attaches, whether it carries a load and what conditions it will face. That information helps prevent a beautiful print made from the wrong material or orientation.

Model review and design preparation

A supplied model is checked for scale, wall thickness, unsupported features and geometry that may not print as intended. When no model exists, design work may be required before production. Reference photos help explain shape, but measurements and mating features are what determine fit.

Material and process selection

Material is selected from the part requirements. A visual prototype may prioritize detail and surface finish, while a fixture may prioritize toughness, dimensional stability or temperature resistance. Print orientation, wall construction, infill and support strategy are chosen as a system rather than isolated settings.

Proof, production and inspection

For fit-sensitive or repeat orders, a proof can verify dimensions and assembly before a larger run. Finished parts are inspected for the features that matter to the request. Clear expectations about cosmetic finish, tolerances and post-processing keep the quote and result aligned.

  • Include the required length, width and height or a known scale reference.
  • Identify holes, clips, threads and contact surfaces that must fit another object.
  • State the quantity and the date the parts are needed.
  • Describe heat, outdoor exposure, chemicals, flexing or load requirements.
